Uxmal and the iPad Pro camera

On our way to Uxmal

Uxmal

Well today we have arrived in Progresso and then are Traveling past Merida to the beautiful Mayan city of Uxmal. Uxmal is one of the few cities on the Yucatan peninsula and means, "thrice built."
The camera, blogging app, and having the Cellular enabled version of the iPad Pro is an awesome asset to the trip.

One thing I have noticed is that the ipad does not sit on my lap as well as a laptop but it is certainly smaller and easier to take places. The battery life is fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting some really cool pictures at Uxmal.

Apps that Rock on iPad Pro so far!

There are many apps that are really cool and seem to function really well with my iPad Pro. These Apps just solidify my thoughts around the iPad as the best tool for education. These are all things that are difficult to do with cheaper devices like Chromebooks... Not to mention try using a Chromebooks without Internet access. Now to the Apps.
  1. Blog pad Pro is the one I am using now and I really like it. I had never used it before yesterday on the plane and it is really easy and intuitive.
  2. Liquid Text absolutely rocks! Anyone who wants to read PDF documents, mark them up, take notes and make references while connecting all of your thoughts and notes together.... This one is for you. This is a very cool App!
  3. Notion is a very cool app that helps people who are musically inclined to write their own music, experiment with it, play it back, publish it etc. If you have the Apple Pencil you can actually place notes on the score with the pencil which is pretty darned cool. Having tons of fun living the dream with this App.
  4. Photos or for you traditional folks like me... IPhoto! Great app works as expected and the 4K camera makes video look awesome. I love the live photo stuff. It makes getting just the right photo super easy to do.
  5. iMovie This app would not work on the plane yesterday. It would just freeze up. Once on the ground with better internet I upgraded to 9.3.1 of iOS and that seemed to solve the problem. Now iMovie works like a charm.
This is all for now. As I use other Apps I will let you know about them but for right now I definitely am able to use iPad Pro for everything I would normally use my MacBook Air for. Strange how a dedicated trial like this works out well. I love the portability, the built in Cameras etc. The keyboard is awesome and works as it should. Very cool product so far.

Day 1 continued - Setting up my new iPad Pro

Day one - the Grand 30 Day Experiment Begins

Setting up my iPad Pro was a dream come true. I am under the thought that the iPad is the future and will eventually replace the Macintosh all together. I will be using nothing but my iPhone and this ipad for the next 30 days to see if I can fully replace my Macintosh with my iPad Pro and make everything work for me on a single device.

Let me tell you... The iPad Pro is extremely responsive. What ever tech the good Apple folks placed inside this tiny lightweight ipad absolutely rocks. Things that in the past have been sluggish on all iPads are extremely quick and responsive. The battery life is impressive even while using it most of the day Sunday and all the time on the airplane flying
to Galveston Texas for a cruise with my family.

Yes this blog is going to start off with a family vacation, photos, videos and currently I am using a blogging app downloaded for the first time from the App Store yesterday... While on the plane.

I purchased the keyboard with my new iPad and it really is nice. I have never really used a keyboard with an ipad before and it makes a huge difference, especially with apps where I need to type allot. The onscreen keyboard is also very responsive but takes up half the screen on the 9.7" as it does on other iPads except the larger iPad Pro. I am thinking that to be able to completely replace my MacBook I am going to need to keep the keyboard.

My first gotcha..... Salesforce.
My company uses Salesforce exclusively for management of customers etc. One of the things I have yet to be able to do is create reports within the Salesforce app. When I switch to the online version it seems to want to emulate the ipad app rather than give me the real SF interface. I will continue to play with it but if anyone has any suggestions I would love that you share them with me.

Jumping in to do a quick update on Salesforce....
If a person copies and pastes the correct URL from the main Salesforce site then within safari it seems to let you go to whe whole SF page rather than SF mobile but when you click on certain links is causes the mobile page to pop up instead of the full blown SF interface. I think this is a SF website issue rather than an ipad issue.

Great day today! My iPad Pro 9.7 arrives!

Opening my new iPad Pro 9.7"

WOW... I just return home from a visit to Apple corporate on it's 40th Birthday and my new iPad Pro 9.7" has arrived! Parts and pieces of it had been arriving all week including the Pencil and 2 adapters.  The iPad arrived in typical Apple style, right on time and exquisitely packaged in nicely disposable... Or recyclable containers. Yeah... go Apple green.  Unwrapping the ipad and all the peripherals was a treat, as usual, each component neatly wrapped in their protective plastic wrappers with much care from the Mother Ship and each part neatly placed in its own compartment.

One of the joys of opening an Apple product is the actually unwrapping each of the components and realizing that if they took this much care to protect the components you can imagine the care they take in creating the marvelous technology.
